When I co-wrote this song, I had actually never had a boyfriend nor experienced a twisted, scary person in my life. But I had read plenty of stories about them, and wanted to write about someone having the courage to finally walk away from all of that. Since then, I've found the words really have meaning to me and so many others - your only wanting to see the best in them, wanting to give them the benefit of the doubt, believe their words - only to find out they're just manipulative, twisted souls whose easy lies flow from their lips. FINALLY, you get the strength to see them for who they really are, and FINALLY, you walk away, wishing you had never met them.
